Metal stamping scales efficiently across many part sizes and shapes—but only when your supplier pairs solid engineering with stable quality and predictable schedules. Use this checklist to evaluate partners and reduce risk.
● Look for a proven track record in your industry (automotive, electronics, aerospace, etc.).
● Expect engineering support for both standard and custom dies—DFM to optimize thickness, tolerances, and cost.
● Ask for sample parts or case summaries relevant to your application.
● Confirm a documented QMS aligned with ISO practices; request process flow and control plans.
● Verify inspection capability (gauges, CMM/vision) and gauge calibration records.
● Ask for optional documentation when needed: FAI/PPAP levels, material certs, RoHS/REACH statements.
● Modern presses sized to your part; in-house die fabrication and preventive maintenance plans.
● Support for progressive/single-hit/compound dies; in-die tapping/insert where applicable.
● Up-to-date inspection and data tracking for repeatability and traceability.
● Competitive pricing without sacrificing yield or schedule—total cost beats lowest unit price.
● Confirm nesting/scrap strategy and material sourcing options for savings at scale.
● Clarify tooling ownership, repair responsibility, and expected die life.
● Expect clear timelines, rapid DFM iterations, and proactive updates during builds.
● Check responsiveness in English and the ability to handle design changes or urgent orders.
● Agree on packaging, labeling, and export documents upfront.
● Engineering-first approach with stable QC from IQC → IPQC → FQC.
● Progressive/single-hit die capability, surface finishes (zinc-nickel, anodize, powder coat, passivation).
● Reliable lead times, export-grade packing, and global shipping support.
