Custom Electrical Enclosure / Server Chassis

Custom Electrical Enclosure & Server Chassis
Build the Metal Housing Around the Electronics, Airflow and Service Plan

A server chassis or electrical enclosure must do more than cover the components. Board location, power supply, cooling path, connectors, cable access, mounting rails and maintenance clearances all influence the sheet-metal structure.

Hongming Sheng manufactures drawing-based chassis, rackmount housings and electrical enclosures from prototype through repeat production.

Six Systems That Shape the Enclosure

The outer dimensions are only the starting point. The enclosure should be reviewed against the actual devices and the way the finished equipment will be installed and serviced.

01 / MOUNT
PCB & Power

Studs, trays, brackets and clearances for boards, power supplies and internal modules.

02 / COOL
Airflow

Fan openings, vents, filters, baffles and unobstructed inlet-to-outlet paths.

03 / I-O
Connectors

Cutouts, labels, rear panels and tool clearance around cables and plugs.

04 / RACK
Installation

Rack ears, rails, handles, wall brackets, base plates or equipment mounting points.

05 / SERVICE
Access

Removable covers, hinged doors and module replacement paths.

06 / BOND
Grounding

Conductive contact areas, studs and coating masks where specified.

Server Chassis and Electrical Enclosures Need Different Priorities

Rackmount / Server Chassis
  • Required rack unit height and chassis depth
  • Front and rear mounting-ear geometry
  • Rail, handle and cable-clearance interfaces
  • Fan direction, vent area and replaceable filters
  • Drive, board, power and connector arrangement
  • Removable top cover or service-panel strategy
Electrical / Control Enclosure
  • Wall, machine, floor or frame mounting
  • Door swing, hinges, locks and gland plates
  • DIN rail, backplate and cable-routing layout
  • Heat source, ventilation and filter access
  • Gasket, seams and environmental exposure
  • Internal segregation and maintenance clearance

Real Enclosure and Chassis Projects

Typical Manufacturing Route

01
Drawing Review

Interfaces, material, finish and quantity.

02
Cutting

Profiles, vents, ports and mounting holes.

03
Bending

Shells, panels, trays and brackets.

04
Hardware

Studs, inserts, nuts and mounting features.

05
Joining

Welding, riveting or mechanical fastening.

06
Finishing

Powder coating, anodizing or specified finish.

07
Assembly

Panels, doors, brackets and agreed hardware.

Material and Finish Options

Carbon or Coated Steel

Often selected for structural housings and cabinets, with powder coating or other specified protection.

Stainless Steel

Considered where corrosion resistance, cleaning or an exposed metal appearance is required.

Aluminum

Useful where lower weight, conductivity or anodized appearance supports the equipment design.

Engineering Details to Resolve Before Production

Thermal Path

Provide component heat information, fan selection and airflow direction. Vent openings alone do not confirm final thermal performance.

Grounding & Shielding

Identify conductive joints, bonding studs and uncoated contact areas. Product-level EMC performance requires system validation.

Assembly Stack-Up

Define board, rail, bracket and connector datums so accumulated tolerances do not interfere with installation.

Service Sequence

Confirm which modules, fans, filters or power units must be replaced and the tools or access space required.

Cosmetic Control

Mark visible faces, color, texture, logo areas and acceptable fabrication marks before finishing.

Packing Strategy

Identify delicate finishes, protruding hardware and whether panels can ship flat or as removable assemblies.

IP, Thermal and EMC Targets Need System Validation

Environmental sealing: An IP target depends on seams, doors, gaskets, fasteners, cable entries and the final assembly. If a rated result is required, define the test method and responsibility before quotation.

Equipment performance: We manufacture the enclosure to approved drawings and agreed inspection scope. Thermal, EMC, electrical and regulatory validation of the complete equipment remains with the customer or system integrator unless separately agreed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you manufacture a custom 19-inch rackmount chassis?

Yes, provide the required rack unit height, chassis depth, mounting-ear geometry, rail interface and internal hardware layout. These dimensions should be confirmed against the intended rack system.

Can you help if the electronics layout is not final?

An early manufacturability review can begin with preliminary files, but production drawings should use the final board, fan, connector and power-component locations.

Can you install hardware and internal brackets?

The manufacturing scope can include studs, inserts, rails, handles, hinges, locks, brackets and agreed mechanical assembly when the specifications are defined.

Does a gasket automatically make an enclosure IP-rated?

No. Joint design, door compression, cable entries, fasteners and the complete assembled condition all matter. A rating should be tied to a defined test and responsibility.

Planning a Server Chassis or Electrical Enclosure?

Send the drawing, component layout, material, finish and quantity. Our team can review the sheet-metal structure, mounting interfaces and fabrication route before quotation.

Customer drawings, CAD files, samples and technical specifications are handled confidentially. NDA support is available for OEM projects.
