Custom Sheet Metal Stamping Parts for Precision Applications

Custom Tooling · Forming · Repeat Production

Precision stamping begins with the right tooling decision

Hongming Sheng manufactures custom sheet metal stamping parts according to customer drawings. Before tooling begins, we review material, thickness, formed geometry, burr direction, critical dimensions, finish and expected production demand.

The goal is a production route that matches the part—not simply the largest or most complex die.

Real stamped-part examples

These samples show the type of drawing-based work we support. Tool structure, material, finish and inspection requirements are evaluated separately for every new project.

Production examples are for capability reference. Final acceptance follows the approved drawing, sample and agreed project requirements.

Which manufacturing route fits the part?

Project Stage Possible Route Why it may be considered
Early Prototype Laser cutting, CNC punching, bending or simple prototype tooling. Useful while geometry, fit or demand is still changing and a production die is not yet justified.
Moderate Repeat Demand Single-hit, compound or staged tooling selected according to the operations required. Can balance tooling investment, production frequency and part complexity.
Stable High Volume Progressive die stamping with strip feeding and multiple forming stations. May combine piercing, forming and cutting operations after the part and volume are validated.
Deep or Seamless Form Deep drawing or multi-stage forming with material-flow review. Suitable when cup depth, radii and wall condition require controlled forming rather than simple bending.

Part features reviewed before tooling

Material Flow

Forming and draw behavior

Alloy, temper, grain direction, draw depth, bend radius and areas where thinning or cracking may occur.

Edges

Burr direction and clearance

Piercing and blanking direction, edge condition, die clearance and surfaces that contact mating parts.

Geometry

Holes, bends and reliefs

Hole-to-edge distance, hole-to-bend distance, flange length, bend relief and formed feature spacing.

Accuracy

Datums and critical dimensions

Functional datums, mating locations, repeatability needs and dimensions that drive inspection.

Assembly

Threads, inserts and joining

Tapping, PEM hardware, rivets, spot welding, assembly sequence and access for secondary operations.

Appearance

Finish and cosmetic zones

Plating, anodizing, passivation, coating, heat treatment, masking and visible surface requirements.

A stamping tool has a production lifecycle

STAGE 01 Tooling Plan Define forming sequence, strip layout and die structure.
STAGE 02 Build & Tryout Manufacture tooling and evaluate initial stamped samples.
STAGE 03 Correction Adjust tooling based on measured results and agreed requirements.
STAGE 04 Approval Set the accepted drawing and sample as production references.
STAGE 05 Maintenance Review wear areas and revisions during repeat production.

Quality planning for repeat stamped parts

Incoming material: confirm grade, thickness and required documentation.
First-piece review: verify critical dimensions, formed features and burr condition.
In-process checks: monitor the features most sensitive to tool wear or drift.
Secondary operations: confirm threads, inserts, welds, heat treatment and finish.
Revision control: align drawing revision, tooling version and approved sample.
Final release: inspect to the agreed plan before packaging and shipment.
Do not apply the tightest tolerance to every feature. Identify dimensions that affect fit, function or safety. This allows the tool, process control and inspection plan to focus on the requirements that matter.

Why quantity matters

Tooling investment and production method should match the expected demand and product life. Tell us both the first order and estimated repeat volume so we can compare practical routes.

Confidentiality: Customer drawings, CAD files, samples and manufacturing information are treated as confidential. NDA support is available.
