A competitive quotation is only one part of supplier evaluation. For custom stamped parts, buyers should also understand how drawings, tooling, samples, revisions, secondary operations, and repeat orders will be managed.

Send Stamping RFQ1. How Will the Drawing Be Controlled?
Drawing RevisionConfirm which revision will be used for quotation, tooling, sample approval, and repeat production.
Critical FeaturesImportant dimensions, burr direction, formed areas, finish, and assembly interfaces should be identified clearly.
Technical ClarificationUnclear drawing notes should be confirmed before tooling or production begins.
2. How Will the Tooling Be Managed?
Tool TypeUnderstand whether the part will use single-stage, compound, progressive, or another tooling approach.
Tooling RecordPart number, drawing revision, tooling version, and approved sample condition should remain connected.
Future ChangesIf the drawing changes later, confirm whether the existing tool can be modified or requires new tooling sections.
3. What Happens Before Production Approval?
● First sample or trial part review
● Critical dimensions checked against the drawing
● Material and thickness confirmed
● Surface finish or plating confirmed
● Any tooling correction documented before repeat production
4. Are Secondary Operations Included in the Review?
Tapping / InsertsCheck whether threaded features or hardware installation are part of the manufacturing scope.
Welding / AssemblyIf the stamped part becomes part of a larger assembly, mating interfaces should be reviewed.
Surface TreatmentPlating, powder coating, passivation, or other finishing should match the drawing requirement.
Deburring / Edge ConditionBurr direction or edge requirements should be defined where they affect assembly or handling.
5. How Will Repeat Orders Be Controlled?
For repeat stamped parts, the supplier should be able to connect future orders to the correct drawing, tooling condition, material, finish, and approved part requirement.
