What Should Be Confirmed During the Prototype Stage?
MaterialCopper, brass, steel, or another specified material should match the electrical and mechanical requirements defined by the customer.
ThicknessSheet thickness influences forming behavior, stiffness, connection geometry, and tooling.
Connection InterfaceBolt hole, tab, contact face, crimp area, welded interface, or other connection features should match the assembly.
Formed GeometryBends, flanges, tabs, embossments, or drawn areas should be checked after forming.
Surface TreatmentPlating or other specified finishes should be considered together with contact and mating areas.
Prototype Approval Is More Than Checking Overall Size
● Contact and mounting surfaces
● Hole and slot positions
● Bend angles and formed height
● Burr direction
● Edge condition
● Plated or uncoated functional areas
● Fit with the mating battery or electrical assembly
Tooling May Change After the First Samples
Initial stamped samples may reveal springback, material-flow, hole-position, or formed-feature differences that require tooling adjustment.
These corrections should be completed and confirmed before the production condition is treated as final.
Surface Finish Should Be Reviewed Before Production Is Locked
Plated Contact AreaThe finish should match the drawing and electrical interface requirement.
Masked AreaSelected surfaces may need to remain free from coating where specified.
Threaded AreaThreads or fastener interfaces may require protection during finishing.
Cosmetic AreaVisible surfaces should be identified separately from electrical contact surfaces.
