What Should Be Included in a Sheet Metal RFQ?

2D DrawingDimensions, tolerances, hole sizes, threads, bend notes, weld symbols, and other manufacturing requirements are commonly defined here.

PDF or another readable drawing format can be useful for quotation review.

CAD

3D ModelA 3D model can help clarify formed geometry, assemblies, brackets, cutouts, and relationships that may be difficult to understand from one view.

MAT

Material & ThicknessSpecify the required material grade and sheet thickness where known.

QTY

QuantityQuotation may depend on whether the project is a prototype, trial batch, repeat order, or regular production requirement.

FIN

Surface FinishPowder coating, anodizing, plating, passivation, brushing, polishing, or other specified finishes should be included in the RFQ.

For Formed Parts, Bend Information Matters

Bend AngleImportant where the final assembly depends on the formed geometry.

Bend DirectionUseful for understanding the correct orientation of the part.

Hole Near BendHole position and bend location should be reviewed together.

Flange LengthShort or complex flanges may affect forming access.

Which Features Are Critical?

Not every dimension has the same importance. If certain holes, mounting faces, connector openings, or assembly interfaces are especially important, identify them clearly in the drawing or RFQ notes.
