Custom CNC Milling and Turning Services

One CNC Project, Two Core Machining Processes

Hongming Sheng provides custom CNC milling and turning services for OEM parts that require flat surfaces, pockets, holes, profiles, diameters, bores, threads, grooves, or a combination of these features.

Depending on the part geometry, our engineering team can review whether milling, turning, or a combined machining route is more suitable.

CNC Milling vs. CNC Turning

CNC MILLING
Best for Prismatic & Multi-Face Parts
● Flat and angled surfaces
● Pockets and cavities
● Slots and profiles
● Hole patterns
● Mounting faces
● Multi-side machining
CNC TURNING
Best for Cylindrical Components
● Outside diameters
● Internal bores
● Shafts and sleeves
● Grooves and shoulders
● Internal / external threads
● Tapers and cylindrical profiles

Which Process Fits Your Part?

Mostly Round GeometryCNC turning is often the primary process.
Multiple Flat FacesCNC milling is generally more suitable.
Pockets & Complex ProfilesMilling provides greater access to non-rotational features.
Threads & DiametersTurning may be more efficient for rotational features.
Round Part + Side FeaturesTurning and milling may be combined in the same project.

When Milling and Turning Are Combined

Many industrial components are not purely milled or purely turned.

For example, a cylindrical housing may first require turning for its outside diameter and bore, followed by milling for flats, side holes, slots, mounting features, or connector interfaces.

● Turn main diameters and bores
● Mill flats or mounting faces
● Drill cross holes
● Add threaded or locating features
● Complete secondary finishing as required

Materials We Machine

AluminumCommon for lightweight housings, brackets, fixtures, and equipment components
Stainless SteelSuitable for corrosion-resistant mechanical and industrial parts
SteelUsed for structural, mechanical, shaft, and tooling components
Brass & CopperUsed for fittings, electrical parts, adapters, and specialty components

From Drawing to Machining Plan

Step 1Review — Geometry, material, tolerance, finish, and quantity
Step 2Process Split — Determine which features should be milled and which should be turned
Step 3Setup Planning — Review workholding, tool access, machining sequence, and secondary operations
Step 4Machining — Milling, turning, drilling, threading, and required secondary processes
Step 5Inspection — Check critical dimensions according to agreed drawings and specifications

Design Details That Affect CNC Cost

Tight Tolerances:Apply tighter control mainly to functionally critical dimensions.
Deep Pockets:Long tool reach may increase machining difficulty.
Small Internal Radii:Tool diameter affects the minimum practical internal corner radius.
Multiple Setups:Features on many orientations may require additional workholding or multi-axis machining.
Surface Finish:Cosmetic or special finishing requirements should be defined before quotation.
